The ToC can still be useful in as much as it usually anticipates the elements in the system that will be interacting and whose interactions later need to be understood. The argument is for more modest expectations about what ToC can do BUT for increased expectations about systematic analysis of data about what has happenedRick Davieshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07028422984421301184noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6719829.post-21185446608602008672013-11-01T13:46:10.768+00:002013-11-01T13:46:10.768+00:00Hi Rick, you seem to be edging towards a kind of c...Hi Rick, you seem to be edging towards a kind of causal loop diagram version of a theory of change. See the wikipedia page here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Causal_loop_diagram

Borrowing just two basic notions from CLD
- we might see the inter-relations between the elements as being positive or negative in different contexts, and changing over time
- We can also see the overall property of the system being an emergent property of the interactions between the elements

B.

Ben Ramalingamhttp://www.aidontheedge.infonoreply@blogger.com
